Quality and Cost Transparency

We offer our members various programs and tools to explore cost and quality information to help them shop for care.

Premium Designation Program

The Premium Designation Program makes quality-of-care and cost-efficiency information available to Medica members for individual physicians across multiple specialties. Only those physicians who meet quality based on national standardized measures are then evaluated for cost efficiency. The results of these assessments are used together to determine a designation that is displayed to members on Medica’s provider search tool.

New in 2017: Administration of the Premium program will now be handled by UnitedHealthcare®. Physicians or the delegates they appoint will use to see Premium program resources, review reports, and request reconsiderations. Resources are available pre-login, but for provider-specific information, providers need to register so they can securely log in. Please follow the registration instructions, as needed.

This site provides members with cost and quality details on things such as procedures, conditions, and health care supplies, which allows them to compare providers.

Health Care Estimator

The “myHealthcare Cost Estimator” (myHCE) tool is the next phase in our cost and quality transparency initiative. This tool, developed by UnitedHealthcare®, gives members detailed information on the cost of clinical services. It has evolved to incorporate the use of contracted fee schedules to help determine cost estimates.
